How to Make Your Own Wedding Invitations

It's easy to make your own wedding invitations that look professional, using our premium supplies and instructions with templates. Instead of a prepackaged wedding invitation kit, select the only components you want to create your own unique design, or view our recommended styles. Our exclusive layered invitations consist of four components: a heavyweight BACKGROUND CARD, printable OVERLAY PAPER, EMBELLISHMENT plus ENVELOPE.

number 1Print or Copy onto Overlay Paper

The text for your layered wedding invitations will be printed or copied onto overlay paper, each 8."5x11" sheet will provide four 4.25"x5.5" overlays. Choose from translucent vellum to reveal the background card underneath or crisp opaque white to contrast the darker background cards. Either overlay will print on most printers; however, the vellum is made specifically for inkjets, laser printers and copiers. We recommend ordering a sample to test and purchasing water resistant ink jet ink or using a laser printer or copier, for better durability.

If you will be using a photo copier:

A paper template is provided for a calligrapher to use (figure 1), the blue lines on the template will not copy. Copy onto test paper first before copying on the overlay paper (figure 2).

If you will be using an ink jet or laser printer:

Although any word processing or layout software can be used, ED/iT offers The Complete Wedding Publisher for Windows which includes "socially correct" wordings that can be personalized with your guests' name plus wedding invitations fonts. We also provide Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works and AppleWorks templates to download with your order.

After creating your document, experiment with different typefaces to get the look you want then print on test paper before printing on the overlay. Click here for ideas on wedding invitation wording.

Cut as indicated on template (exactly in half both vertically and horizontally), use a paper cutter for best results.
